Update on WorkSafeBC’s Claims Management Solutions

On May 11, 2009, WorkSafeBC launched the new online Claims Management Solutions (CMS) system that was designed to streamline and manage the claims process more effectively, and improve service.

Service challenges

As discussed in our previous issue, WorkSafeBC has encountered some service challenges with the implementation of the new system. WorkSafeBC indicates that the adjudication of claims is moving forward and claims processing is progressing.

WorkSafeBC acknowledges that there continue to be some minor issues in terms of service and support. They ask that we be patient as the implementation is progressing and the situation is improving.

Where there is an urgent request from an employer or worker, WorkSafeBC has implemented Emergency Service phone lines. The Emergency Service phone lines should only be used in circumstances where the worker or employer isn't able to get help from the case owner, especially in cases where this would mean hardship for the worker. In those cases, Emergency Services Staff can provide emergency payment where needed.

The numbers to call are:

604 276 3053 or 1 800 335 9330

What can you do?

The best advice that we can give is to be proactive with your disability management. Do not wait for a reply from WorkSafeBC or rely on WorkSafeBC to intervene in returning your workers to work. Implement return to work strategies early and consistently with all of your workers.

Should you require assistance with return to work strategies and plans, or you have urgent outstanding issues, please contact Mark Grabas at markg@bcpsea.bc.ca for assistance.
