Difficult interactions with others are part of both our personal and professional lives. The Collective Bargaining Academy is an intensive and highly interactive learning opportunity that occurs inside of a unique three-day format. The Academy covers all aspects of collective bargaining including a collective bargaining simulation aimed at providing participants with an opportunity to learn through practice. This session will include individuals from the labour relations community with extensive experience and expertise in collective bargaining.

Each day of the Academy starts at 8:30 a.m. and work into the evenings will be required on days one and two. Day three concludes by 4:30 p.m. Registrants should be aware that the timing of some activities will take place outside of the typical workday. Evenings will include working in a team in a bargaining simulation.

Please plan for accommodation with the hotel even if you live locally as some work into the late evenings will be required.

Resolving the disputes in the unionized context requires understanding of the grievance process – from informal discussion to preparing for arbitration. In this 1.5-day course focus is placed on learning how to interpret collective agreement language and preparing for and responding to grievances. Participants will develop a keen understanding of how to use the grievance process to resolve disputes in a productive and timely manner that brings clarity and closure to the issues arising from the administration and application of the collective agreement.

BC public school workplaces are committed to harassment prevention and non-sexist environments. Below is a free training course available to school district teaching staff.

The commitment for BC public school workplaces to have a non-sexist environment is addressed in Article E.1 of the Teacher Provincial Collective Agreement. Harassment is covered in depth in Article E.2 under the terms and conditions of the Teacher Provincial Collective Agreement.

This training supports these two commitments. The training is designed for school district’s to share with their employees.

The Support Staff Education Committee (SSEC) is pleased to provide access to a free course called: Promoting a Non-sexist & Harassment-free Workplace. This 20-minute tutorial will provide participants with an orientation to what workplace harassment is and is not, including sexual harassment. Participants are presented with relevant workplace scenarios that may or may not constitute harassment to engage learning and ensure understanding.

BCPSEA will not be responsible for reimbursement of travel or any other expenses incurred by the registrant on or before the specified cancellation date.

Cancellations by a registrant will be accepted in writing only to donnav@bcpsea.bc.ca. A full refund, minus non-refundable Eventbrite fees (all fees in Canadian currency), will be issued for registrant cancellations received in writing prior to the specified cancellation date.
