Teacher collective bargaining
BCPSEA is the accredited bargaining agent for the province’s 60 public boards of education. The BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) is the certified bargaining agent for BC’s public school teachers. Teacher collective bargaining has a two-tier bargaining process: provincial and local. Local matters are negotiated at the school district level, while compensation and other provincial matters – including all cost items – are bargained by BCPSEA and the BCTF at the provincial level.
For the 2025 bargaining round, local teacher bargaining occurred first. Local bargaining tables were open from November 4, 2024, to February 28, 2025.
Provincial teacher bargaining started in March 2025 and completed in March 2026. The 2025-2029 Collective Agreement was fully ratified and came into effect on March 6, 2026.
